Orcas and Munchkins

Posted April 24, 2016 in News by Whale Sanctuary Project

Shortly after The Whale Sanctuary Project was incorporated, we received a donation of $200,000 from Munchkin, Inc, a company well-known by parents everywhere for its innovative, modern and credible products for babies and children.

Munchkin has also pledged further donations totaling at least $1,000,000 toward completion of the first seaside sanctuary.

project-orca-smAmong Munchkin’s social justice programs is its Project Orca. After 10 years of making a toy orca whale for the bathtub, Munchkin decided to remove this toy from its collection because, as the company wrote:

“Here at Munchkin, we’re putting our principles before profits to help raise awareness for this cause. After 10 years of including a toy orca as part of our top-selling Sea Squirt Bath Toy collection, Munchkin will no longer include an orca in the set because a bathtub just isn’t big enough for an orca.”

Munchkin CEO Steven M. Dunn is committed to helping build the first seaside sanctuary for orcas. This donation will enable us to complete an exhaustive site search and create a comprehensive plan for the building of the sanctuary, transport of the first residents, and their continuing care.

Many thanks to Steven and all the Munchkins. We look forward to a continuing partnership.
