Dolphin Dialogues: A Conversation with Dr. Denise Herzing
September 10, 2020 @ 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM EDT
Join us for a conversation between pioneering dolphin researcher Dr. Denise Herzing and Whale Sanctuary Project President Dr. Lori Marino as they explore the world of dolphin societies, communication and personhood.
They’ll talk about Denise’s decades-long work with a society of free-ranging dolphins, what it means to observe dolphin etiquette (!), and her ground-breaking studies using machine learning and artificial intelligence to understand dolphin communication. And they’ll explore the question of how close we are to really “decoding” dolphin dialogues.
Finally, they’ll discuss whether dolphins have the degree of advanced cognition and autonomy to be recognized as “persons” with certain fundamental legal rights.
Dr. Denise Herzing is Founder and Research Director of the Wild Dolphin Project, a 32-year study of the Atlantic spotted dolphins inhabiting Bahamian waters.
Join us for this deep dive with one of the leading dolphin field researchers in the world.
