How Our Short Film ”Whales Without Walls” Is Making Waves on the Film Festival Circuit

September 3, 2020 @ 9:00 PM - 9:30 PM EDT

  • « How I Fell in Love with the Cetacean Brain!
  • Dolphin Dialogues: A Conversation with Dr. Denise Herzing »

Whales Without Walls was intended to be a brief intro to the work of the Whale Sanctuary Project. But it turned out to be a compelling short film that could be submitted to film festivals to reach an even wider audience with our mission.

In January of this year, the film premiered at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and has since gone on to make waves on the film festival circuit, highlighting the pressing need for seaside sanctuaries as an alternative to captivity for these intelligent, socially complex animals who can never thrive in concrete tanks at marine entertainment parks.

Since its premiere, the film has gone on to win awards and official selection status at six other film festivals

This Thursday, September 3rd, as part of their online series “Film Talk,” the Santa Barbara International Film Festival will feature Charles Vinick, Executive Director of the Whale Sanctuary Project, for a discussion about Whales Without Walls and our progress in the creation of the sanctuary itself.

A Q&A period will follow the discussion.

Thursday, September 3rd at 9:00pm ET, 6:00pm PT.
