Are you a student or young professional studying marine mammals who also wants to advocate for their protection from exploitation?

Students are often told that they can either study marine mammals as scientists or they can become advocates for marine mammals, but they can’t do both. Scientists, they are told, have to be purely “objective” about how they relate to the animals they study.

Certainly, the scientific method is objective, but there is no conflict between being scrupulously objective in following the scientific method and then using the results to advocate for change in the world. Indeed, it takes advocacy based in science to drive the cultural shift that’s taking place in how we relate to nonhuman animals.

In this webinar, five scholar-advocates for marine mammals explore this issue with you and offer advice on how you, too, can be a scientist and an effective advocate for marine mammals both free-ranging and captive.

You may also send in questions in advance by email.
And then join us on Thursday, July 23rd at 9:00 pm EDT.
