Holiday Newsletter 2022 – A New Life for Captive Whales

Posted November 25, 2022 in News by Michael Mountain

As we head into the Holiday season, we’re very grateful to have received the commitment of a $5 million grant by the Wendy P. McCaw Foundation toward the capital costs of constructing the sanctuary buildings, infrastructure, and sanctuary perimeter net.

This marks a major milestone toward the time when we will welcome the first whales.

Also in this year’s Holiday Newsletter:

  • More Progress at the Sanctuary Site: Completing the two-year environmental studies required for permitting;
  • An End to Captivity? Canadian Parliament opens the door to legal status for captive whales;
  • Whale Aid Programs: A better life for 56-year-old Tokitae (“Lolita”);
  • Lessons for Life: Educators inspiring compassionate future citizens.

Whale Sanctuary Holiday Newsletter 2022
You can also access the newsletter at https://express.adobe.com/page/OilmbXnIGhwLc/ (And this newsletter is best viewed on your computer.)

Your donations toward the day-to-day operational costs of Whale Sanctuary Project make all of this work possible. Your support covers everything from staff costs to travel to other operational costs including the required environmental surveys and studies.

There is much work to be done in the year ahead. And the plight of whales in tanks at entertainment parks and aquariums only makes for greater urgency.

This Holiday season, please donate what you can. Your Holiday donation, large or small, one-time or monthly, makes an enormous difference.

And please contact us if you can consider making a special contribution toward the capital costs of the sanctuary.

Thank you for caring about the whales. Together, we can give them a new life that makes up, as much as possible, for what went before.
